A mirror is placed at an angle inside a basin filled with water tinted with blue pigment. Because there is more water and pigment at the upper part of the mirror than at the lower part, a seamless gradient of color appears. When the work reflects a white wall, it evokes the atmosphere of the blue hour — the moment just after the sun has disappeared below the horizon. It creates the illusion of an opening in the wall, leading toward something ephemeral and unreachable. The piece gives the optical impression of an electrically powered screen or television, yet it is a simple, analogue assemblage of water, pigment, and glass.
