Dutch artist Anne-Jan Reijn was in 2014 in residency at Werktank, where he worked on his project High Expectations II. Together with the students of the Department of Electronics-ICT of Group T, he developed an installation that creates beauty from the threat of destruction.
A wick lights up, as an eternal prelude to an explosion. It does not make use of explosive material and the flame doesn’t even move a centimeter. The greatest possible dynamic, from detonator to explosion, becomes a static situation, yet with its own explosiveness, therefore obliging the visitor to constantly (re) position himself.
