Sunburst

Amélie Laurence Fortin’s “Sunburst” project is made up of two works. On the one hand, a kinetic sculpture set in motion using solar weather data collected between August 28 and September 3, 2020 by NOAA and the Space Weather Prediction Center in the Report and Forecast of Solar and Geophysical activity. And on the other hand, a video filmed in an attic somewhere in Europe, using the few hours of solar energy available, the artist’s body and a red gelatin.

The works which unite simple gestures in a tiny attic with the explosive activity of the most grandiose of our stars, are inspired by the precision of the data of the disturbances and explosions recorded on the sun, with an emphasis on the unpredictability of the phenomenon.

In “Sunburst”, the inseparable allows the emergence of counter-intuitive effects. The predictability of movements is no longer valid and a new dynamic adapted to the unforeseeable merges the spatial and the temporal in a double structure, fiery and operative.
