Why are you selecting a home? What are the parameters? Is this random?

The word Pedigree is a Middle French word for family tree. It is etymologically derived from: ‘pie de grue’, which literally translates in crane’s foot. It is a poetic reference to the symbolic Y-split that designates descendants parents to children in family trees. The project starts from a study of the house and its history and the typological/ formal characteristics that houses have.

Pedigree is an in-depth research on the home as a physical and psychological place and as a shared metaphor for the condition humaine. In addition, it is an archival and historical research on architectural elements and how they are applied at different layers in urbanist contexts. We are often convinced that our home is the highest form of personal expression, as a art of our identity. In part this is true, but Pedigree shows that however personal homes might come accross, they have a pedigree or connection to each other. This work both maps the universal connection and the formal connection. Pedigree is a DNA investigation of homes in the euroregion/Flanders and a poetic mapping of these findings.
