Pepper's Ghost
Kurt d’Haeseleer
Pepper’s Ghost is an illusion trick, which was used in theaters, museums and amusement parks in the 19th and 20th century and was named after John Henry Pepper (1821–1900) who popularized the effect in a demonstration at the end of the 19th century.
For the installation ‘The White’ by Kurt d’Haeseleer, we experimented with this old technique and made a set-up was in a modified form. The final result was to make use of both a screen above and below the mirrored glass so that you get a Pepper’s ghost on both sides of the glass.
