In “Collection of Doubts”, Katinka de Jonge brings together sounds, words, and sentences taken from the many encounters and conversations she had while residing in Lugar a Dudas, which is Spanish for “place of doubt”. A polyphony of voices resounds from speakers handcrafted from gourds—a popular instrument in Pacific music—challenging us to consider how meaning changes along with the given context.
In “Collection of Doubts” brengt Katinka de Jonge geluiden, woorden en zinnen samen uit de vele ontmoetingen en gesprekken die ze had tijdens haar verblijf in Lugar a Dudas, wat Spaans is voor “plaats om te twijfelen”. Een polyfonie van stemmen weerklinkt uit luidsprekers die met de hand zijn gemaakt van kalebassen – een populair instrument in de muziek van de Stille Oceaan – en daagt ons uit na te denken over hoe betekenis verandert naargelang de gegeven context.
