Che Go Eun transforms traditional Korean Dancheong motifs into unexpected, contemporary AI-generated images. Using her own watercolors alongside artificial intelligence, she creates patterns that feel both familiar and surprising.
Che Go Eun’s work emerges from a deeply personal conflict. Her father once called her a “failure” because she did not meet his traditional expectations. From these words and their impact, Belief, Love & Failure was born—an installation in which she visually translates her emotions, conversations with her father, and fragments from her diaries.
She used Stable Diffusion, an AI tool she trained herself, to generate Dancheong motifs. Many AI tools lack knowledge of non-Western art, but by maintaining an ongoing dialogue between human and machine, she produced truly unique images. These AI-generated works then served as the basis for watercolors, which she printed onto wallpaper, transforming the Hangar at BAC ART LAB into a striking visual environment.
